BENEFITS OF COIRPITH


COIR PITH : It is the spongy material  which binds the coconut fibre in the husk.It was considered waste material for long time. But now people become aware the importance of  spongy material which is a waste on extraction of coconut from the husk.It is a excellent soil conditioner and it used as soil-less medium for agricultural uses.
In coconut tree all the parts are used for various purposes. Its waste coir pith becoming alternative soil medium in the agricultural field irrespective of cultivating sands.
Coir pith having the quality of conserving high quantity  water for long time. It is very much suitable for aeroponic   as well as hydroponic method growing plants.
Coir pith contains Carbon, Nitrogen,lignin . These may not support the growth of plants when directly fed. For nourishment the mushrooms are grown along with the waste of coconut fibres and made to decay. After  complete decay the coir pith are used for growing medium.

Especially in Tamil Nadu people extensively uses due to water crisis. It is very much suitable for terrace gardening as it is less in weight. 1 kg of coir pith can contain 7 liters of water.If you squeeze the coir pith after four months you can extract  3 liters of water.. Where sand fertility is very low , these coir piths are suitable compensation for agricultural purpose.
Coir piths are available in  different forms.Out of this the  composed coir pith and fertilized coir pith are well know for the agricultural needs.
